Even the President of Ukraine in his daily appeals to the Ukrainian people no longer hides that the situation around Bakhmut is truly tragic. This battle point on the map was popularly nicknamed the fortress, but whether the fortress can withstand this pressure depends on several factors.
PPeople in Russia never end
In this direction, the Russian army is really doing its best; assault units are attacking almost constantly to get to the city center. The situation has persisted for more than 10 months. The losses of soldiers – citizens of the Russian Federation will be in history books as an illustration of the command “to take at any cost”. The Ukrainian side does not have such a resource of people. There is still no advantage with the equipment either. The only trump card of the Armed Forces of Ukraine remains an incredible motivation, thanks to which this section literally and figuratively became a dead spot.
“Road of life”
At the same time, Ukrainian forces are extremely vulnerable at this stage. The fact is that all roads to the city are cut off, except the last one – the Bakhmut-Konstiantynivka road. The supply of weapons, food, and the transportation of the wounded and dead bodies take place on this road.
The Russians are well aware of the importance of this road, which is why it is under constant shelling by artillery forces. Russia does not spares efforts and lives to take this area under its control. Ukrainians have terrible losses in the same way.
If supplies along the Bakhmut-Konstiantynivka route are impossible, then all units, which are currently in the city, will remain cut off. Then the issue of capturing the city will be a matter of one or two days.
What can stop the attack?
In order to stop the constant attacks of the Russian army, the Armed Forces of Ukraine have only one option: to cause significant losses to the enemy both in technical equipment and the number of personnel. This would give a certain pause in order to carry out redeployment and significant changes in the location of forces.
