A bright flash in the sky, which was recorded late last night in Kyiv, was most likely caused by a meteorite fall, according to the state space agency of Ukraine. According to them, this is probably due to the entry of a cosmic body into the dense layers of the atmosphere.
Later, Ukrainian experts clarified – the most likely version of this event – the fall of a meteorite from the Lyrid cosmic stream. To date, it is known that the Earth every year in April falls into the plume of Comet Thatcher. The peak of this year’s meteor shower falls on April 21st.
This “flash” was also seen in Belarus, almost 200 kilometers from Kyiv. However, no traces of the fallen cosmic body have yet been found either in Ukraine or in Belarus. Also, to date, there is no information about fires or emergencies that could be caused by a meteorite fall.
Despite this, scientists are now drawing an analogy between the “Kyiv outbreak” and the “Chelyabinsk meteorite”. Ten years ago, a meteorite fell in Russia. Before its fall, bright flashes were visible in the sky, and then a cosmic body with a total mass of 654 kilograms was found.
Among the previous versions of the explanation of the incident in the capital of Ukraine, a rocket fired from Russia was considered, as well as a NASA satellite that fell to the ground. Later, both of these versions were refuted by the military administration of Kyiv and the US space agency NASA. The United States reported that their satellite was still in Earth orbit at the time when a bright flash was observed in the sky in Kyiv.
At the same time, the United States declares an increase in cases of unknown air incursions into the territory of their country. The day before, a Pentagon spokesman reported on the investigation of 650 cases of UFOs to date. Lawmakers are showing heightened interest in unexplained incursions amid fears that the aircraft could be exploited by America’s adversaries. However, American anomaly experts say that today there is no evidence of alien activity.
