Is ISIS beheaded? What will mark the liquidation of the leader of an international terrorist group

Turkish media reported on the liquidation by Ankara’s special services of the next head of the international terrorist organization “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” (ISIS) Abu Hussein al-Qurashi. The action of Turkish law enforcement officers took place in a remote region in northern Syria. According to some analysts, the assassination of al-Qurashi will lead to the activation of radicals throughout the Islamic world.

Or maybe it won’t. At the moment, ISIS has ceased to be a single powerful structure capable of destabilizing the situation in individual countries. According to official information, the “Islamic State” has long since split into separate cells that trade in robberies and kidnappings on the roads of international importance. Al-Qurashi, who was killed on April 30 of this year, was the leader of just such a cell.

It should be especially noted that on November 30, 2022, the American Pentagon reported on the elimination of the predecessor of the mentioned leader of ISIS, Abu Hasan al-Hashimi al-Qurashi. The “previous” person has no family ties with the current liquidated character. The thing is that the nickname “Al-Qurashi”, translated from Arabic meaning “nephew of the Prophet”, according to the already established tradition, is worn by dozens of people who claim the title (or position – as you like) of the chief among equals in the “Islamic State”.

So, what is known about Abu Hussein? According to widespread information, he was born in Iraq in 1968, received a theological education in a madrasah (Islamic school) in Saudi Arabia, after which he allegedly preached in Sudan. Since the beginning of hostilities in Syria, he came to the Syrian Arab Republic and joined one of the illegal armed groups. Subsequently, he became an assistant to the then Amir (“Chairman”) of ISIS, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

There is no single answer to the question of what will change with the elimination of the next al-Qurashi. “Apparently, nothing,” – said Turkish political commentator Akif Idiz in a special commentary for EURO-ATLANTIC UKRAINE. – In his place in the leadership of the group will come another figure. But, despite the fact that today ISIS does not pose a serious threat to the world order, it should be remembered that terrorism in any of its forms is a destabilizing factor. The fight against extremists must continue”.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke in a similar tone. “We will not tolerate any manifestation of hatred and terror. Enemies will be killed as they appear” – he concluded.
