The issue of providing fighters of the modern type is the most acute since the first days of the full-scale invasion of Russia into the territory of Ukraine. Kyiv has required such equipment in different forms and through various political platforms. Finally, after over a year, progress has been made in this matter.
A decisive meeting between Biden and Zelenskyy
Kyiv has officially announced that the Presidents of the United States and Ukraine will meet in the coming days. The agenda will cover various issues related to the war started by the Kremlin. However, the primary focus will be on the use of F-16 fighters.
Ukraine got support
Even though the USA has long resisted the transition from words to real steps, the moment has come. Recently, President Biden announced that the United States will help Ukraine by providing training to pilots on how to operate F-16 aircraft. The training will be held in Europe, with American military personnel serving as instructors.
It has been noted that it takes around 4-5 months to acquire the required skills. Zelenskyy commented that this can be considered the beginning of the formation of a “fighter coalition”.
A spoon of tar
However, Biden made it clear that the USA has not yet provided Ukraine with fighters, and will not do so in the future. Political scientists and experts view this as a standard protocol, where training occurs before any official transfer of planes is announced. This approach aims to avoid any unnecessary risks or tensions between the conflicting parties.
