Years of support – what the West is offering Ukraine

The West is ready to support Ukraine for years. British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said, this the previous day. According to him, Russia’s strategy of “waiting” so that the West gets “tired and bored” will not work.

“We are now in conversation with allies about what kind of long-term multilateral and bilateral security agreements we can conclude with Ukraine,” he said.

NATO members are likely to discuss the form of these agreements at the Vilnius summit in July.

Earlier, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak described as fundamentally flawed any peace plans that would not return occupied territories to Ukraine and would lead to a freezing of the conflict.

“The correct and only answer to what has happened is for Russia to withdraw all its troops from Ukrainian territory. Any initiatives that are presented as peace plans, but in reality are only attempts to freeze the conflict in its current state, are fundamentally wrong and their true essence must be exposed,” Sunak said.

Sunak also said at the time that he “absolutely disagreed” with the idea that a ceasefire in Ukraine could serve as an initial step in the peace process at this stage.

“A ceasefire is not a long-term peace on fair terms for Ukraine,” he stressed, adding that the peace plan should be based on the principles of the UN Charter and respect for Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Unfortunately, Rishi Sunak cannot be an island of support for Ukraine. He already has a precarious position in his country and has been criticised more than once
