Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said yesterday that his country has no objective prerequisites for sending modern Israeli missile defense systems to Ukraine. According to Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, the relevant pieces of equipment will be useful to the State of Israel itself to counter regional extremist groups. What can Kyiv expect in this context?
It is necessary to make a remark. In this particular case, we are talking about the likely supply for the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the Iron Dome (ID) divisions – one of the most effective air defense structures in general and missile defense in particular. Say, there is a danger of these systems falling into the hands of Iran and Syria. It is curious that there is logic in this statement.
“There have been many cases when Western equipment transferred to Ukraine became the prey of the Russian army on the battlefields,” – European observer Alexander Mitz said in a commentary for EURO-ATLANTIC UKRAINE. – Russians often dismantle captured tanks, artillery mounts and even unmanned aerial vehicles in order to use them for their own purposes later. And this is not surprising – over time, parts of the Iron Dome may end up in Iran and Syria. Israel does not want this turn of events. At least – it will be not now”.
In fact, everything is correct – according to Russian law, official Moscow reserves the right to transfer equipment captured in battles to “third countries”. “We do not want even one element of the JK to even accidentally end up in the hands of extremists located in close proximity to the borders of the Jewish state,” the Israeli government document says.
There is another circumstance preventing the transfer of the Iron Dome to Ukraine. “Israel does not want a deterioration in relations with Moscow,” independent analysts say. Say, Tel Aviv is determined to continue the broadest diplomatic, cultural and public relations with the Russian Federation.
The interests of Kyiv in this context are not taken into account.
Be that as it may, the leadership of the same Israel is now insisting on a peaceful settlement of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. The Israelis could not offer a clear plan for such a settlement.
