The day before, representatives of official Washington issued a joint statement in which they criticized Ukraine’s actions on the territory of Russia. In particular, the American White House actually condemned the strikes of the corresponding unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) on objects in the so-called “sleeping areas” of Moscow. Earlier, the United States expressed doubt about the advisability of Kiev’s bombing of the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation. Why, and most importantly – why, did the United States take such a position in relation to its potential allies?
There is no direct and clear answer to this question. And probably won’t. But the fact remains: at a meeting with reporters on July 24, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre voiced the opinion of the American government, noting that Washington does not accept manifestations of terrorism, no matter which side they come from. “We do not support the practice of terrorist attacks inside Russia”, – she emphasized, in particular. And she added that today this opinion is shared by almost all structures of local government, including the presidential administration and the State Department.
This statement caused confusion in the circles of international analysts. And the experts can be understood – earlier Washington associated Ukraine with an “exceptionally friendly state”, and, by allocating finances, weapons and ammunition to Kyiv, brought closer the possible victory of the Armed Forces of Ukraine over the Russian aggressor. But, as time has shown, something clearly went wrong in this plan of victory.
A few days ago, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, commenting on the transfer of a batch of so-called “cluster munitions” to Ukraine, expressed the hope that these weapons would not be used on Russian territory. But a legal incident intervened. “Today, Kyiv considers part of the regions of Ukraine occupied by Russia as its own territories, – American observer William Connolly said in a commentary for EURO-ATLANTIC UKRAINE. – This actually allows the Armed Forces of Ukraine to use “cluster bombs” on the territory of Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, as well as near Donetsk and Lugansk. With regard to UAVs, Ukraine simply reserved the right to launch “preemptive strikes” on Russian territory. Or respond to the regular bombing by Russian forces of Ukrainian settlements”.
A different opinion is expressed by some experts in the European Union. “By calling such actions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “terrorist activity,” America is taking a certain step to the side” – says Belgian analyst Klaus Hoff. – In this particular case, Washington needs to maintain its image of a state that complies with international rules and laws. There is no doubt that the United States will go all the way in this endeavor at all”.
