After a Russian drone fell on the territory of Romania, the country’s government began to act decisively. It is not only about its security measures but also about active assistance from NATO.
The drone fell on September 6. An urgent investigation showed that the Russian side launched this Shahed.
Who were they aiming at?
It is not said that the attack was intended to target Romanian territories. However, they border Ukrainian ports of the Black Sea region, from which grain and other strategically essential cargoes are shipped. As Russia blackmails the world with hunger, it actively ruins these ports to make it impossible to use them and destroy all goods that can be sent to other countries.
Even though the Russian Federation is not currently conducting military operations against Romania, its citizens are under constant threat of similar attacks, as it was on September 6. This caused several changes in the country.
Is it effective?
The Government of Romania intends to take the following measures:
– residents of areas where there is a risk of similar situations will be sent notifications to their mobile phones about the threat;
– district inspectorates will conduct detailed instruction on behavior in threatening circumstances;
– it is planned to build shelters for a short period in the cities of Plauru, Chatalkioi, and others bordering the Ukrainian territory in the dangerous zone.
But security measures are carried out not only by its forces. NATO also actively participates. The Secretary General stated that the presence of the Alliance in this region has already been increased:
– additional measures were taken near the border with Ukraine;
– monitoring of border areas has been strengthened;
– airspace protection in dangerous areas has been activated.
In addition, the USA plans to transfer additional combat aircraft to Romania. All these measures are aimed at protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Romania.
