For more than a year and a half of the full-scale invasion, Poland remained Ukraine’s most ardent partner, but the events of the last few days showed how fragile this friendship was. The diplomatic relations between the two countries have been aggravated, which has not happened for a long time.
Kyiv and Warsaw have exchanged unpleasant comments due to Poland imposing unilateral restrictions on the import of Ukrainian grain. Kyiv plans to contest this decision through the World Trade Organization and has good reason to believe that it will win the case.
Its own is better than someone else’s
Elections will soon be held in Poland, so the current President is gaining “points” by resorting to various methods. And the most stormy outrage in the past was caused by the situation with Ukrainian grain. There is a lot of it; it is of high quality, and it sharply affects the prices of Polish farmers. That is why the government resorted to limiting the import of grain from Ukraine.
Creativity in politics
The answer to this was the speech of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to him, one gets the impression that some people in Europe are showing solidarity on the political stage, preparing a place for a Russian actor. After such a statement, the Polish side summoned the Ukrainian Ambassador in Warsaw for clarification.
Oratory tournament
Poland also did not remain in debt in the verbal competition. Duda defended Warsaw’s decision to ban imports and then gave a briefing where he accused Ukrainian businesses of wanting to harm Poles. After that, Duda compared Ukraine to a drowning man who drags those who are close to him to the bottom. The President of Poland said that his country would not allow such a thing to happen to itself.
Is it an accident?
On the same dates, it became known that Poland would not extend the status of temporary shelter for Ukrainians who left the country during the war in 2024. This is even though the European Union announced the extension of such protection for Ukrainian citizens.
Friendship and mutual curtseys suddenly ended, and in the Kremlin, they happily rub their hands together.
