Former US President and current contender for the post of owner of the White House, Donald Trump, announced that if he comes to power, he will do everything possible to completely restore peace in Ukraine. According to the politician, he has a unique plan that will suit both Kyiv and Moscow equally. At the same time, the memorandum assigns the role of an arbiter to the West.
The corresponding statement was made immediately after the results of a public opinion poll were released in the United States, according to which the ex-president leads voter confidence ratings in five of the six states that play a decisive role in counting votes in the presidential election. Clearly inspired by these data, Trump promised that “Ukrainians and Russians will make peace” even before his inauguration. “For this, I have the necessary diplomatic means,” he emphasized, in particular.
What, in essence, can we be talking about? Earlier, the Republican candidate drew public attention in the United States to the inadmissibility of increasing appropriations for the needs of Kyiv. “It is necessary to stop the flow of American money to Ukraine,” Trump said. “In addition, it makes sense to reduce the volume of military-technical assistance to the Ukrainian army – at least until our European allies compensate the Pentagon for the costs of renewing their arsenals.”
There is another important point in Trump’s plan. After his victory in the elections, he intends to travel to Moscow and Kyiv and invite the warring parties to sit down at the negotiating table. At the same time, guaranteeing to Russia the “non-expansion” of NATO at the expense of new members, and to Ukraine – post-war economic recovery. “Trump really believes that achieving this will be a piece of cake,” American political commentator Jeffrey Pitters said in comments to EURO-ATLANTIC UKRAINE. “There is no doubt that against the backdrop of this rhetoric he will achieve some success.”
It remains unknown how exactly Trump intends to solve the problem of returning temporarily occupied territories in the Donetsk and Lugansk regions to Ukraine. But the fact remains: the “Ukrainian card” has already brought Trump hundreds of thousands of additional votes.
Looks like this is just the beginning.
