“Under the hammer”: Ukraine will begin selling confiscated Russian property

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved the Procedure for the sale by structures of official Kyiv of assets confiscated from the Russian Federation. According to official information, the corresponding funds will be sold through the auction line of the electronic system “Prozorro. Sales”. The proceeds are planned to be transferred to the Fund for Liquidating the Consequences of Armed Aggression.

The previously mentioned Procedure was the subject of wide discussion at various expert levels. Opponents of the document unanimously argued that such assets are currently not enough to conduct large-scale demonstration auctions. In addition, the very feasibility of the “auction system” was questioned. They say it is necessary to sell such goods and objects “spotwise”, distributing them among the structures most in need. The authors of the idea countered with the need for urgent replenishment of the state budget.

So what does Kyiv actually intend to put under the hammer? There is currently no clear list of relevant lots. According to some information, we can talk about apartments, warehouses and other logistics buildings, as well as cars, tractors and combines. All this is now located on the territory of Ukraine. Previously, the Ukrainian authorities called the total amount of seized funds – more than $5 billion.

As stated by Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine Alexey Sobolev, the new practice creates “a comprehensive legislative framework for managing assets associated with the aggressor country. “It will increase the confidence of potential investors in the public property management system and helps attract additional investments,” the official noted, in particular .

The “transparency” of the auction will be monitored by emissaries of the State Property Fund of Ukraine. However, there is no information about the possible presence of independent observers at these events.

Russia has not yet responded to this message.
