The issue of payments to refugees has become so acute that the deputy head of the Free Democratic Party Kubytskyi suggests the collapse of the ruling coalition. The main reason is the bill on the aid calculation on credit cards for refugees and the procedure for their registration.
Time of change
In the past, the aid recipients received it in cash, but now everything will change if the law is adopted. The transfer will be made to a payment card, but there is a nuance: it will be possible to pay with it only in a separate region. If 5,000 euros accumulate on the account, further charges are blocked.
This new, more difficult system is needed to control transactions made by refugees better and to limit the transfer of funds to countries of origin. Thus, there will be no outflow of currency from Germany. And all these innovations are logical and do not raise questions.
The practice began in January when the first 200 people received such cards, and just a week and a half later, another 540 people joined the experiment. Then, the experiment was further spread. And it gave an interesting result: after the withdrawal of payments, the recipients massively get back home.
To fully legalize the practice of cards, the government must make all the necessary amendments and a vote on this is scheduled for next week. But the “Green” party, now acting as the leader of the ruling coalition, suddenly decided to block the adoption of this bill because they considered it discrimination.
Oppression or improvement
Some deputies think that it is not possible to limit refugees’ access to cash because this is a practice of oppression. At the same time, the procedure for registering migrants who do not have documents has been simplified. This will allow people to seek medical care if needed without the risk of being deported.
This became the stumbling block, which caused a strong disagreement between the coalition and the party headed by Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Registration without any documents can simply open an endless portal for the flow of refugees to Germany, and this prospect is quite real. The ratings of the ruling parties are constantly falling due to migration issues, and the population has long been very sensitive to any improvements in conditions and simplification of registration for migrants. Therefore, voting for the draft law will become a real “X time”.
