The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already openly stated that the course of the war primarily depends on the supply of Western weapons. So, no one has any illusions left: the determining factor is not the motivation of Ukrainian soldiers (although that is important) or compliance with NATO standards, but American support. Against the background of the candidate’s rhetoric for the White House, this confession sounded alarming to all Ukrainians. However, should we be afraid of real indifference to Kyiv on the part of Donald Trump in the case of his election?
Boris Johnson, the former prime minister of Great Britain, spoke very clearly and informatively about this. He assured that such fears are definitely exaggerated. Analyzing the situation, it is difficult to disagree with him.
To promise and to do
Now, there is a period when candidates win the future electorate with loud statements. At the same time, a whole team of highly paid specialists carefully analyzes the citizens’ mood and takes into account their claims and expectations from the successor. It is these factors, as a rule, that are given the most attention in the candidate’s speeches.
Now, Americans, like many people in the world, tend to see the Russian-Ukrainian conflict as the cause of the crisis and, specifically, the deterioration of their standard of living. Therefore, they want no more funds to be allocated for arms to Ukraine. So, it should be talked about it all the time! Which is what Trump is doing.
It is probably unnecessary to say that politicians do not always (or rather, seldom) keep their pre-election promises. For example, one of the narratives that led to the victory of the current President of Ukraine Zelenskyy was that he would be able to end the war that had been going on for five years in a matter of days. And what is the result? Exactly.
Stubborn facts
And the reality is that any US President cannot allow Russia to win in Ukraine because it goes against American state interests. Therefore, pre-election promises are one thing, and real actions are completely another.
To understand how Trump feels about Ukraine, you can just review his contextual actions, which are as follows:
– he became the first President to provide Ukraine with lethal weapons in 2018 to “patch” holes on the eastern fronts and later to play a fundamental role in the battle for Kyiv;
– Donald Trump carried out the largest expulsion of Russian diplomats from the country – there were more than 60 of them.
Therefore, it must be remembered that on the way to power, the candidates will make various statements – loud and scandalous, but it must always be remembered that their goal is a tick on the ballot. And then a completely new stage begins.
