The head of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Matviy Bidny, revealed the number of sports facilities destroyed as a result of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The figure is shockingly high.
Russia has completely or partially destroyed 600 sports infrastructure facilities in Ukraine. This was announced by the Acting Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Matviy Bidny, during a meeting of the EU Council of Ministers.
Bidny reported on Russia’s crimes against Ukrainian sports
The representative of the Ukrainian government said that many Ukrainian athletes are currently in EU countries. They receive government support, particularly from France, as well as support from international sports organizations.
“Today, more than 600 sports infrastructure facilities are partially or completely destroyed. Unfortunately, the Ukrainian national team cannot fully train in Ukraine. Therefore, we are grateful to our partners for providing such an opportunity for our athletes,” Bidny said.
He noted that Ukraine is negotiating the future reconstruction of the destroyed facilities. The Ukrainian government is currently working on a strategic plan for the development of sports infrastructure so that the facilities are not only self-sustaining but also beneficial for the health of the nation.
“It makes sense to rebuild after our victory when we understand that if we invest tens of millions of hryvnias in a facility, it won’t be destroyed by a missile the next day,” Bidny added.
It should be noted that today, May 16, the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war has been ongoing for 813 days. Every day, civilian infrastructure suffers from Russian crimes, and Ukrainian civilians, including children and athletes, are killed.
