The European Union has initiated the establishment of rapid response teams to counter hybrid threats and coordinate efforts to mitigate their effects.
“The EU Council has agreed on a framework for the formation of EU Rapid Response Groups to hybrid threats. This will allow involving such groups if necessary for the preparation and countering of hybrid threats and campaigns,” – said in the statement.
These groups will become an important tool in supporting EU member countries and partner countries in combating hybrid threats. According to the EU Strategic Compass, they will provide expert assistance to member countries and partners, aiding in missions and operations of the Common Security and Defense Policy.
“In light of the worsening security situation, increasing disinformation campaigns, cyber attacks, attacks on critical infrastructure, as well as the use of migration as a weapon and interference in elections by hostile actors, the EU Rapid Response Groups on Hybrid Threats will be part of a new EU strategy to counter current and future threats,” – the statement notes.
We remind you that in 2022, the European Union adopted the Strategic Compass – a document that identifies the main directions of the EU policy in the areas of security and defense. It proposes the creation of a new structure to quickly respond to hybrid threats, their identification, and mitigation of consequences.
The new EU Rapid Response Groups on Hybrid Threats will bring together experts from civilian and military security, allowing them to effectively adapt to new challenges.
