A year ago, a leap-like transition of many companies to AI services in various fields was observed. For many, developers were creating special programs based on artificial intelligence that were very expensive but promised significant savings and modernization as a result. Now the exact opposite is happening: more and more clients are refusing such a format, even though the service has already been paid for. What is forcing them to take such actions?
Refusal to comply
Users are facing the fact that the technology of the future is behaving unpredictably. The word “uncontrolled” is most often used to describe its operation.
An example can be McDonald’s USA, which also decided to end its cooperation with Artificial Intelligence. The experiment started back in 2021 when the feature was introduced in test mode in over a hundred establishments for further expansion. However, with each passing month, the number of complaints about the AI assistant increased.
These were errors like:
- Unexpected addition of bacon to sweet ice cream;
- Adding $211 worth of nuggets to a customer’s order;
- When ordering vanilla ice cream and a bottle of water, the AI assistant provided packets of ketchup and two servings of sour cream instead.
These are cases where the errors are hard to miss, but there are also minor violations that are mostly detected by network staff. For example, not every customer can taste that a different type of cutlet was added to their meal, the sauce was not put correctly, etc. Such errors are mostly detected through reports and expenses, but most of them still remain unnoticed.
Balance in everything
Initially, these shortcomings were attempted to be resolved by software developers, but so far they have not been successful. In order to comply with the company’s standards, the decision was made to return to using classic technologies. The conclusion is: human resources cannot yet be fully replaced by digital products.
However, this does not mean that AI has failed in all areas. It is successfully applied in many cases. The examples mentioned above are just a great demonstration that artificial intelligence will not become a magic wand or a curse, as some people believed, but will simply balance and be limited in its niche in the modern world.
