By the end of June, the European Union and Ukraine may sign an agreement on security guarantees. The signing will be discussed during the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Monday.
When Will Ukraine and the EU Sign the Security Guarantees Agreement?
The signing of the security agreement will be discussed at the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Monday. However, it is not yet clear if the ministers will be able to sign the document during the meeting. A high-ranking source indicates that EU member states are very close to this decision.
If the document is not signed at the ministerial level, it could be directly referred to the leaders for consideration at the EU summit on June 27-28.
“There are still a few things that need to be agreed upon. I cannot say whether this will happen before the European Council meeting. However, if it happens during the Euro Council, I won’t be surprised,” the source noted.
Brief Overview
Recently, the Office of the President of Ukraine announced the signing of a new security agreement with the European Union. They indicated that negotiations have already been completed. The security agreement with the EU will be executed in accordance with the Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine, which the EU and G7 countries approved in Vilnius on July 12, 2023.
