Against the backdrop of war and energy issues, the Ukrainian education system continues to seek the best ways for children in Ukraine to receive education regardless of the challenging situation. The search for solutions is ongoing, leading to some chaotic decision-making and rapid changes. Currently, there are plans to change the school year schedule again.
Learning in August and on Saturdays
At the end of May, Ukrainian universities, colleges, and vocational schools were recommended to start the academic year in August. Additionally, it is suggested to organize classes on Saturdays during the warmer months of the school year.
When will the school year start in schools
The Minister of Education of Ukraine, Oksen Lisovyi, discussed the start of the school year in schools. Due to issues with electricity and heating supply, the school year in schools will not begin earlier. Lisovyi stated this during the “Question Hour to the Government,” reported by RBC-Ukraine citing Contrakti.UA.
Changes in the class schedule
Lisovyi pointed out that the class schedule will be adjusted to avoid problems with electricity supply. In particular, in schools without shift teaching, the start of classes will be shifted to 10:00. The Ministry of Education is currently working on relevant guidelines.
Issues with electricity
Approximately 30% of Ukrainian schools are equipped with technical means for generating electricity. Local authorities are responsible for addressing these issues. In cases of extreme necessity, blended or online learning will be implemented during peak challenging periods, the minister emphasized.
