Ukrainian analysts warn that the energy crisis in the country could lead to a significant rise in the prices of basic food products. In particular, producers of bakery, confectionery, and dairy products predict a substantial increase in the cost of their goods.
Reasons for the Price Increase
According to “NBN,” citing Forbes, the domestic business sector is facing global power outages, forcing enterprises to switch to using their own generators. However, this significantly increases production costs since electricity from generators is 2-3 times more expensive than electricity from the centralized grid.
Analysts’ Predictions
Experts forecast that in the near future, bread prices will rise by 5-15%, dairy products will become 30% more expensive, and the cost of confectionery products could double. This is due to the high costs of fuel for generators, which outweigh the previously set markup on the products.
Thus, Ukrainian consumers should prepare for a significant increase in food prices amid the ongoing energy crisis.
