Zelensky to Attend EU Summit
Charles Michel stated that his meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky in Brussels will begin on Thursday, June 27, at 2:00 PM. The politicians will first exchange new information regarding the latest developments in Ukraine and the EU.
“This will be an opportunity to discuss the situation on the ground, as well as acknowledge some achievements since our last meeting. In particular, this European Council will be an opportunity to welcome the adoption of negotiation frameworks and the holding of Intergovernmental Conferences with Ukraine, Moldova, and Montenegro. These are historic steps in supporting the respective paths of these countries toward European membership,” said the President of the European Council.
Michel also emphasized that the EU has been ambitious and bold in directing revenues from frozen Russian assets to support Ukraine this year. For the coming years, according to the President of the European Council, the EU, together with partners, will ensure loans for Ukraine amounting to another 50 billion euros.
“It is also crucial that we strengthen military support for Ukraine, focusing on air defense, ammunition, and missiles. Additionally, we must continue to rally broad international support for a just peace in Ukraine based on the UN Charter,” Michel stressed.
Previously, Ukraine and the EU began negotiations in Luxembourg on Ukraine’s accession to the union. EU countries have already presented negotiation frameworks to the Ukrainian side.
