Sviatoslav Pavlyuk, executive director of “Energy Efficient Cities of Ukraine,” called on Ukrainians to make serious investments in the energy efficiency of their homes. According to him, each apartment should purchase energy equipment worth 3-4 thousand dollars to ensure stable and efficient energy supply.
Pavlyuk noted that for many years Ukrainians have been underpaying for electricity, taking advantage of low tariffs. He believes this should be seen as a kind of savings which now need to be invested in updating the energy system. He also criticized citizens for insufficient preparation for the current situation, pointing out that money was spent on various needs, excluding necessary energy equipment.
“The fact that you underpaid for electricity for many years can be seen as savings that now need to be spent on updating the energy supply system. I understand that there is no money, but it has been spent,” Pavlyuk noted. According to him, for decades Ukraine had a tariff that did not sufficiently cover the cost of electricity, leading to the current problems.
Investing in Energy Efficiency: a New Challenge for Ukrainians
Pavlyuk’s call signals the need for urgent action by the population. Investments in energy-efficient equipment can include installing modern boilers, thermal insulation materials, energy-efficient windows and doors, as well as “smart home” systems that help save resources.
Such investments, although significant at first glance, can pay off in the long run by reducing energy costs and increasing living comfort. Additionally, this is an important step towards the country’s energy independence and reducing its reliance on external energy suppliers.
The Importance of Preparation and Strategy
Sviatoslav Pavlyuk also emphasized the need to develop a long-term strategy for energy modernization at the state level. This includes not only supporting individual investments but also incentivizing state programs to improve the energy efficiency of residential buildings.
It is important to create conditions under which investments in energy efficiency will be beneficial and accessible to a wide range of the population. This may involve tax breaks, subsidies, and preferential loans for purchasing energy-efficient equipment.
Conclusion
Ukraine faces a serious challenge in the energy sector. Investing in energy efficiency is not only a response to current issues but also a path to sustainable development in the future. Citizens should take this matter seriously and take necessary steps to modernize their homes, which will not only lead to cost savings but also an improvement in the quality of life.
