The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has defined the start and end dates of the 2024/2025 academic year. Prime Minister Denys Shmygal announced that the first school bell will ring on September 2, and the last one – on June 30. However, local authorities have broad powers in organizing the educational process, taking into account the security situation in regions.
Who Initiated the Changes
Regional administrations are tasked with ensuring the safety of students and teachers. They can independently determine the start dates and duration of vacations, adjust class schedules, and even introduce a six-day school week.
In June, the Ministry of Education and Science allowed local authorities to independently set the start date of the school year. Some regions have already exercised this right. The Chernivtsi region was the first to move the start of the school year – classes will begin here on August 19 and end on June 6.
Holidays Will Be Less Frequent
Many cities plan to cancel traditional autumn and spring breaks and switch to a two-semester format. The first semester will run from August 19 to November 29, and the second one from February 3 to June 6.
Thus, each region will be able to adapt the educational process to its needs, ensuring the safety and comfort of students and teachers.
