Double podium in Ukraine’s history

Ukraine achieved a double podium at the Olympic Games for the third time in history thanks to the performances of Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Irina Heraschenko in high jump. Mahuchikh won gold, and Heraschenko won bronze.

Two Ukrainian women, Yaroslava Mahuchikh and Iryna Herashchenko, made it to the final of the women’s high jump. Unfortunately, Yuliia Levchenko stopped at the qualification stage. Iryna Herashchenko started from a height of 1.86 meters, while Yaroslava Mahuchikh started from 1.91 meters. Both jumped flawlessly up to a height of 1.95 meters, but Herashchenko couldn’t clear the 1.98 meters mark. Australian Eleanor Patterson also failed to clear this height, giving Herashchenko her debut bronze. Gold was won by Yaroslava Mahuchikh, surpassing Nicola McDermott.
