On September 2, Russia carried out a missile strike on Kyiv, causing significant material damage and injuring several people. The incident was reported by the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko.
Areas with Damage
Debris from the missiles fell in all areas of Kyiv. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, four cars caught fire, a non-residential building caught fire, and the entrance to the “Sviatoshyn” metro station and a nearby kiosk were partially damaged. In the Holosiivskyi district, another non-residential building caught fire, and one person was injured in the Shevchenkivskyi district.
Casualties
According to the mayor, three people were injured during the attack: a 32-year-old man and a 19-year-old girl were hospitalized with injuries, while a 24-year-old woman received assistance on-site. Since those injured or in need of help may seek medical care later, their number is likely to increase.
Damaged Schools Before the School Year
Prior to the start of the new school year, the Russian attack damaged two schools in the Shevchenkivskyi and Sviatoshynskyi districts. Windows were shattered due to the impact, and municipal services are promptly addressing the aftermath.
Combined Missile Attack
The head of the city administration, Serhiy Popko, reported that the attack was combined, involving the launch of cruise and ballistic missiles towards Kyiv. In total, Russia targeted 58 locations in Ukraine, including 16 ballistic missiles Iskander-M/KN-23, 14 cruise missiles X-101, and combat drones.
Ukrainian air defense destroyed nine Iskander-M/KN-23 missiles, 13 X-101 missiles, and 20 combat drones.
Consequences for the Islamic Cultural Center
As a result of the attack, the Islamic Cultural Center of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as well as the mosque located on its premises, were affected.
