Scandal of Waste and Abuse in USAID
The White House recently released evidence of violations and mismanagement of funds in USAID (United States Agency for International Development). The statement reports that the use of financial resources in the agency occurred without any oversight, and the programs themselves often lacked obvious benefits.
Misuse of Funds
Among examples of questionable spending:
- $1.5 million for promoting equality in Serbia;
- $70,000 for staging a DEI musical in Ireland;
- $2.5 million for electric vehicles in Vietnam;
- $6 million for tourism financing in Egypt.
Reaction and Further Actions
On January 20, Donald Trump signed an order to temporarily suspend foreign aid programs of USAID. On February 3, Marco Rubio became the head of USAID, signifying the agency’s transition under the control of the U.S. State Department.
