On March 4, an historic event took place – Donald Trump addressed the U.S. Congress for the first time since his inauguration. However, not all members of the legislative body were able to listen to his speech calmly. Congressman El Green, a Democrat, especially emotionally reacted and was escorted out of the chamber due to President’s controversial remarks.
The 77-year-old politician explained to journalists what led to his protest. Green criticized Trump’s statements regarding social policy, healthcare, and economic initiatives of the new administration.
“Trump is unfit for office”
One of Green’s main reasons for outrage was the issue of cutting the state medical program Medicaid, which provides access to healthcare for low-income U.S. citizens. The politician emphasized that the wealthiest country in the world has no right to deny its citizens quality medical care.
“The healthcare system should not be a privilege only for the wealthy. This is unacceptable!” – Green stated.
In addition, the congressman spoke against other Trump administration initiatives and mentioned that he is already working on articles of impeachment against the president.
“This president is unfit. He should not be in office. There are 34 serious allegations against him, and he has already undergone the impeachment process twice!” – emphasized El Green.
New economic initiatives by Trump
At the same time, Trump announced the introduction of new import tariffs, which will come into effect on April 2. The new restrictions will affect countries such as:
- European Union
- China
- Brazil
- India
- Mexico
- Canada
According to the president, these measures are aimed at protecting American manufacturers and the country’s economy. However, critics have already stated that such actions could lead to a new trade war that would have a negative impact on the global economy.
What’s next?
The scandal in Congress only confirms that the political situation in the USA remains tense. Democrats continue to insist on the impeachment of Trump, while Republicans support his policies.
Whether Al Green and his allies will succeed in removing Trump from office remains to be seen. But it is already clear: the power struggle in the USA is entering a new phase, and the coming months will be crucial for the country’s future.
