The UN adopted the so-called “Peace Formula”. What it is and what should be expected from the approval of this initiative – further in the article.
What is in the document?
For the first time, this resolution was announced by the President of Ukraine at the G7 meeting. It has 11 items, here are just some of them:
- Radiation and nuclear safety;
- Energy security;
- Return of prisoners-of-war and deported persons to Ukraine;
- Withdrawal of the Russian army and restoration of territorial integrity;
- Official end of the war with the signing of all mandatory documents;
- Guarantees of non-escalation.
Experts report that the signing of the “Peace Formula” shows the open position of the world towards Ukraine.
Who voted “against”?
In total, representatives from 180 countries attended the summit. 141 of them voted in support of “Formula”, and another 32 – abstained. 7 countries voted “against”:
- Belarus;
- Eritrea;
- Mali;
- Nicaragua;
- the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea;
- the Russian Federation;
- the Syrian Arab Republic.
It can be stated that the overwhelming majority approved the defense support of Ukraine, the protection of territorial integrity, and the punishment of those responsible for the armed aggression that has been ongoing since 2014.
What does the adoption of the resolution give?
Political analysts point out that concrete results should not be expected after the adoption of the “Peace Formula”, because it is recommendatory and does not belong to documents with legal force. However, at the same time, the countries that voted “yes” showed their position and condemned the actions of the aggressor, that is, the Russian Federation.
