The last meeting of the President of Russia with the President of the USA took place 2 years ago. It was not held in an atmosphere of hostility, but the officials did not reach an understanding either.
The main topic was Ukraine’s membership in NATO. Putin demanded commitments from the USA that Ukraine would not be accepted into the North Atlantic Alliance. However, Biden replied that he would not guarantee this because there is a general rule about the open door policy. This rule is designed precisely for cases like this, so its implementation is entirely legal. No one will close the alliance at the request of the Russian government.
Wind of change
Since then, the heads of the two countries have not had any official mutual meetings. Officials of a slightly lower level were in no hurry to contact each other. Telephone negotiations were held, but they did not concern essential matters.
But the other day US Secretary of State Blinken, who is in office from 2021, said that a meeting of the current US President with his Russian counterpart is not excluded. He said this during a conversation with representatives of the American media. That is, theoretically, such a probability exists. This statement by Anthony Blinken should not be underestimated because it demonstrates not only his opinion but also the official position of the White House.
The Kremlin hears everything
Analysts and political experts immediately noted that the only addressee of this phrase is a person in the Kremlin. This is a hint: we are ready for dialogue; let’s start somehow.
It should also be remembered that the current President of the USA has a limited amount of time left until the end of his term because the American President may change after the elections next year. It is unknown what position the new official will have. Perhaps this can be a person more loyal to the aggressor country, but it is possible that it can be not softer than now. That is why the Kremlin can speed up communication, which is ultimately inevitable.
