A new surge of refugees from Ukraine in the Czech Republic: what attracts them?

At the end of spring and the beginning of summer, there was a general trend of Ukrainians returning home from the Czech Republic. However, during September, the flow of refugees to this country increased again. What is the reason?

Hopes did not come true

Many people who spent the cold months in the Czech Republic returned home because the heating season ended. This meant that there would be no need to freeze even when critical objects of the energy infrastructure were damaged. Also, great hopes were placed on the future counterattack, which was associated with a quick victory for many people.

All these factors, against the background of a tough existence abroad and the discrepancy between Ukrainian salaries and housing prices in the Czech Republic, led to a mass return home.

However, the summer is over, and the situation has not changed. Therefore, many women with children decided to leave Ukraine again next winter.

The golden mean

Only last week, 1,774 people arrived here.

The choice in favor of the Czech Republic falls for several reasons:

– material aid is provided here, unlike the same Poland, where the maximum number of Ukrainians left at the beginning of the war;

– in dollar equivalent, life here is cheaper than in many European countries.

Even the fact that since July of this year, the amount of financial assistance per person in this country has been somewhat reduced does not stop Ukrainians. Now, the conditions will be as follows:

– the first six months – 4,860 CZK (208 USD);

– in case of receiving income, the amount will decrease accordingly;

– for the disabled and pensioners, payments will amount to 7,290 CZK (312 USD);

– children with disabilities will receive 5,235 CZK (224 USD).

Everything is individual

These are approximate numbers. In fact, the aid will be calculated under a particular formula, which depends on many factors. It will be paid only if the person is not provided with housing or food. The changes also concern the provision of a place to live by the state: now it will be provided, if possible, for only 150 days.

Of course, such help is small, but it will come in handy to somehow survive at least a few of the coldest months.
