The White House revealed whether Ukraine will withstand the pressure of the Russian advance

For months, the US Congress dragged its feet on aiding Ukraine, and this has led to negative consequences: significant losses in manpower and equipment on the Ukrainian defense side. However, it seems that Americans are now trying to make up for lost time and are providing all possible assistance in the shortest terms. But will this be enough to restore the former advantage of the Ukrainian army on the front line amidst the Russian offensive?

Great Optimists

At the White House, they are looking at this question positively. They assure that Ukraine will be able to withstand the attacks that are happening and will happen on the front line. This was stated by National Security Advisor John Kirby.

He revealed that Russia’s plans regarding the offensive in the Kharkiv direction were known in advance, which allowed for close cooperation with Ukraine to prepare for the escalation. It is expected that the intensity of attacks from the Russian army will increase over approximately a month, for which additional military units will be moved here. Their main task is to create a buffer zone parallel to the Russian-Ukrainian border, which will be under Russian control.

However, Kirby expresses confidence in the ability of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to resist the pressure. This is facilitated by the constant supply of American equipment and weapons necessary for defense. According to the National Security Advisor, the current focus of supplies includes:

  • ammunition;
  • artillery shells;
  • anti-tank weapons.

Part of this is already in Ukraine, and the next parts are being delivered.

He also reminded that US President Joe Biden earlier that day signed another aid package to Ukraine for $400 million.

Healthy or Unhealthy Optimism

Analyzing these statements by Kirby, it is worth remembering that they always carry a slightly more optimistic tone than reality dictates, as this is a message of support and an attempt to create a picture of complete confidence in Ukraine’s victory from partners and allies. Even with such a position, the politician admits that Russia may achieve further successes in the near future in addition to those already achieved, while Congress was waiting before providing assistance. Numerous breakthroughs are possible, but in his opinion, they will not lead to any serious consequences. This will be due to the flow of aid, which will not stop throughout 2024.

Kirby notes that ahead lies a difficult path, but success depends on the strength of the Ukrainian people and President Biden’s commitment to Ukraine.
