Russia’s Plan to Divide Ukraine into Three Zones

Russia continues to demonstrate aggressive policy towards Ukraine, and a new document from the Russian Ministry of Defense confirms its intention to divide our country into three zones. This plan undermines the sovereignty of Ukraine and shows the Kremlin’s ambitions to eliminate Ukrainian statehood.

How Russia Envisions the Future of Ukraine

The document describes three main zones:

  1. “New Regions of the Russian Federation”
Russia seeks to solidify its control over seized territories, such as Crimea, Donbas, parts of Zaporizhia, and Kherson regions. The Kremlin aims to officially incorporate these regions into the Russian Federation, despite international non-recognition of such actions.
  2. “Pro-Russian State”
On a larger part of Ukrainian territory, including Kyiv, a dependent “state” under Moscow’s control is planned to be established. This would entail Russia having complete control over the political, economic, and social life of the region.
  3. “Contested Territories”
In this scenario, Western Ukraine remains a “contested territory” whose fate Moscow proposes to resolve through agreements with neighboring countries. This approach effectively questions Ukraine’s right to exist within its current borders.

Is This Plan Realistic?

Experts note that this document is another attempt by Russia to intimidate and demoralize Ukrainians. However, the Kremlin’s ambitions face numerous obstacles:

  • Resistance from the Armed Forces of Ukraine and international support. Ukraine receives modern weapons, economic aid, and diplomatic support, significantly weakening the feasibility of the Russian plan.
  • International Law. Most countries worldwide do not recognize the annexation of Crimea and other occupied territories, so any such “zones” would lack legal legitimacy.

Why is the West Important in this Situation?

Western countries play a key role in containing Russian ambitions. Sanctions, military assistance, and diplomatic pressure force the Kremlin to reconsider its plans. The recent tightening of sanctions against Russia demonstrates that the world will not stand aside.

Ukraine has already proven that it can defend its territories and independence. Each new Kremlin plan only strengthens our resolve.

This document is another proof that Moscow does not abandon its imperial ideas. But history testifies: attempts to break the will of Ukrainians always end in defeat for the aggressor.
