Help will come: the EU plans to increase the production of shells for the Ukrainian Armed Forces

Today, May 3, at its special meeting, the European Commission (EC) intends to consider a fundamentally financial document providing for the stimulation of production capacities for the creation of new ammunition, which will subsequently be directed to the needs of the armed forces of Ukraine. It is assumed that the corresponding initiative will be supported by the absolute majority of the structure’s members in Brussels and Luxembourg. At the same time, independent analysts do not rule out that this process will be fraught with a number of difficulties.

As EU Commissioner for Industry Thierry Breton said the other day, United Europe currently has the funds to produce more than 1 million ammunition annually. “In the future, this figure will grow,” he promised, in particular.

According to the main points of this document, the European Union undertakes to allocate more than 500 million euros for such purposes, 250 million of which are planned to be spent by realizing money from the funds of the European Defense Fund. We are talking about injections into 15 companies from 11 EU member states.

But here’s the thing: the European Commission itself is not inclined to assert that the same million potentially produced arsenals have been shipped to Ukraine. According to some reports, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive only part of the European shells. “The main task of the European Union is to increase its own defense capability and replenish the stockpiles of weapons previously sent to Kyiv, – Dutch commentator Alexander Mitz said in a commentary for EURO-ATLANTIC UKRAINE. – Only after such as “replenishment” will it be possible to talk about any increase in military supplies to representatives of the Ukrainian army. But European assistance to the armed forces of Ukraine will definitely come”.

In fact, this was also stated by EC President Ursula von der Leyen during her meeting in Prague with Czech President Petr Pavel. According to her, it is urgent to speed up the production of ammunition for both the EU and Ukraine. “It is in this way that the United Europe will once again demonstrate its defense power”, – the head of the European Commission stressed.

How the implementation of the corresponding project will be carried out is not yet known. At the same time, a number of European defense industry enterprises have already declared their fundamental desire to bring the new EC idea to life “as soon as possible”.
