The war could not stop love: wedding boom among Ukrainians

In times of war, it is common to see unlikely combinations, and the wedding statistics for 2022 reflect this trend. Compared to previous years, 2022 has caused a real boom in weddings.

Love as if it’s the last time

According to official statistics, nearly 223,000 new families registered marriage in the registry offices over the last 12 months. Every month, the average number of registrations was approximately 18,000.

In fact, the statistics were not balanced. Specifically, within the first two months, nearly 25% of those who applied did not appear at the registry offices. This was due to the uncertainty of what will happen tomorrow and the migration of many people outside their region or abroad.

And if suddenly the death

During the war, an increasing number of people desire to become husband and wife. This trend was related to the war. During active mobilization, the number of new families increased each time.

It’s no wonder that families that lived previously in a civil partnership choose to legalize their relationship. It guarantees that the spouse has legal status and rights in such situations as death, injury, or search for a missing person.

Furthermore, some of the reasons for this were the intense emotions caused by the looming threat of danger or risk and the anxiety of potentially missing out on crucial opportunities in life.

Digital marriages

One factor that contributed to the increase in the number of marriages is the option of using the DIIA service to get married online. Around 15% of couples chose this method of starting a family, which is over 33 thousand couples.
