The Ukrainian language has been added to a special eTranslation application that translates European Commission documents into all 24 languages of the European Union. This is an important step, as it will enable faster implementation of European law in Ukraine.
This is thanks to the fact that Ukraine had already joined the Digital Europe programme last year. As the eTranslation app has also become available to Ukrainians, it will be easier to translate documents from English into Ukrainian. This means that EU legislation in Ukraine can be analysed and implemented more quickly. And now it will be possible to translate Ukrainian laws into all languages of the EU.
The Ukrainian Digital Policy Ministry called this a strategic step and said, that this decision will help Ukraine’s negotiations on accession to the European Union.
eTranslation is a free online tool used by the European Commission to translate documents. It has been officially launched since November 2017. EU institutions, universities, public administrations and European non-governmental organisations can freely use the app. In addition to the EU countries, the app is also available to residents of Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Ukraine.
This service translates from and into any official EU language as well as Arabic, Chinese, Icelandic, Japanese, Norwegian, Russian, Turkish and Ukrainian. It offers several translation styles and supports all common office formats.
And the Minister for Digital Transformation, Mikhail Fedorov, recently announced that the Dia app may have a new feature – artificial intelligence “Hope”. It will answer questions about public services in an understandable language. The ministry also stressed, that it would not use personal data and would be as secure as possible.
