An unexpected turn in Belgorod: Russia retreats

The beginning of the operation of the Russian legions in the Belgorod region was unexpected and daring. Even those who were happy about the start of the operation realized that the potential of the rebels is too small to achieve significant success. They expected that the Russian army would suppress the operation in a day or two. However, 4 days have passed, and the Russian authorities have not made any progress, quite the contrary. What is happening there now and what are the consequences of the rebellion noted by political scientists?

Who is winning?

It is currently known that the Russian army has retreated from several dozen settlements in the Belgorod region. Two groups work there: “The Russian Volunteer Corps” and “Freedom of Russia”.

The Department of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine provides the data. The complete list of names of settlements is not available yet.

To be continued

The rebellion is not only not suppressed, but it is also gaining momentum. Those cities that are located closest to the Ukrainian border of the Belgorod region are currently without power, since the Russian government has retreated, and a new one has not yet been established here. The rebels are engaged in further military operations.

It is noted that there are no active hostilities in this region. This is explained by the fact that the main forces of the Russian army are concentrated in the occupied territories of Ukraine. Such a position makes the Russian Federation vulnerable to a rebellion in the Belgorod region.

Geography of the conflict

The intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine notes that the activity of rebel groups continues not only in the border regions but also in the capital region. There it takes place on an underground level. There are no active hostilities, as the Kremlin hopes to resolve the issue in stages. The primary task at the moment is the territory of Ukraine, and it has been decided to localize the Belgorod problem and prevent resistance from the spread to other regions.

Consequences

For the world community, the events in Belgorod showed several points:

– the army of the Russian Federation can act only locally; its potential is insufficient on other fronts;

– protection of its own borders is currently impossible for Russia;

– due to a pause in the response of the Russian authorities, the rebellion may spread to other regions of Russia.

Conclusions are made. A particularly difficult period has begun for the Russian authorities because any separatist movements can now synchronize and lead to radical changes in the Russian Federation.
