The leader in Schengen visa refusals in 2022 is Estonia. The majority of these refusals were for residents of non-EU countries. Citizens of which countries and for what reasons – further in the article.
Paradise is not for everyone
Throughout 2022, diplomatic representatives of Estonia considered applications for entry into the country. They were called the leaders of refusals. The largest number of persons who were not allowed to enter the country were residents of:
– Egypt;
– Turkey;
– India.
Many individuals were unable to enter the European Union as their applications were rejected. In total, one-third of all applications were refused. For example, in Turkey, 56% of applicants got refusal.
Are excuses needed?
A representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Estonia commented on receiving such a “title”. She said that the rejection rate in all EU countries is high. The most common reason in 2022 was that people were unable to prove a real need for entry. This indicates that some individuals may view Estonia solely as a gateway to other EU countries.
When individuals submit documents to obtain a visa, any doubts regarding their authenticity are thoroughly investigated, which can lead to a significant number of rejections. Also, there are often situations where the purpose of the trip is to visit relatives, but after checking it turns out that these persons have already left the country.
It is worth noting that Estonian legislation really has some of the strictest requirements for obtaining a visa. At the same time, there is a very high loyalty to foreigners, who are already in the country.
