“Mission`s done”: why Russia is withdrawing troops from Belarus

The British TV channel Sky News reported on new movements of the armed forces of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Belarus. According to some reports, Russian units are leaving Belarusian territory en masse, taking out equipment and some ammunition. What is actually happening?

The Russian Defense Ministry only indirectly confirms reports about the withdrawal of its troops from the Republic of Belarus. Say, in this particular case, we are talking exclusively about the rotational process. According to representatives of the department, earlier the armies of the two states carried out lengthy maneuvers, after which the Russians withdrew their own forces from the neighboring union republic.

It should be especially noted that the total number of Russian troops in Belarus was more than 2 thousand people. In this regard, a number of Western analysts have already called such a “rotation” nothing more than an “exodus”. “Moscow has its own bases in the Belarusian regions, and against this background, their fate and further functioning clearly remain in question”, –  European analyst Klaus Hoff said in a commentary for EURO-ATLANTIC UKRAINE. – However, here it is difficult to say that Minsk will be left without the military support of the Kremlin. Russia is extremely interested in strengthening its presence in Belarus. Most likely, now Moscow, claiming that its mission in Belarus has been completed, is going for another trick”.

There is another aspect that simply cannot be ignored. The Belarusian Ministry of Defense categorically refuses to comment on this information. At the same time, earlier President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced “the well-coordinated interaction of both armies, which will continue in the future.” As the Belarusian leader emphasized, such interaction is an internal issue of Belarus and Russia, and Minsk and Moscow will not respond to any Western criticism in this context.

And for finally – about the main point. It should be reminded that a month ago the head of the Russian state announced Moscow’s intention to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus. Thus, according to experts, there is no need to talk about any final “final exodus” of soldiers and officers of the Russian army from Belarus.

How events will manage in this vein will become known in the near future.
