The fact that Ukraine is still seen as a member of the Alliance became known from the joint press conference of US Secretary of State Blinken and NATO Secretary General Stoltenberg. They reported the information that Ukrainians were waiting for: the country was ready to be accepted into the Bloc.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n The most significant effort to move this issue from a standstill was made in the first months of a full-scale invasion. Until President Zelenskyy ended this issue, announcing that the Alliance was not ready to accept Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n For two years, this topic was discussed exclusively on the sidelines, but now, for the first time, a statement from such high-ranking persons who expressed a positive opinion was heard. What was said in their speeches?<\/p>\n\n\n\n 1. Firstly, time X is named – it is the July NATO summit. It will become the most significant since the Cold War (the return of which can be safely stated).<\/p>\n\n\n\n 2. Secondly, the main issues during this event will be the Bloc’s adaptation to the new situation and armed assistance to Kyiv. Ukraine will no longer be a passive observer of NATO, as it plans to open weapons production facilities with the support of NATO.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Membership in the Bloc would greatly simplify many of the technical and legal processes associated with the production of such products, as key figures responsible for security doctrine increasingly say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Despite optimistic statements, one should also realize that words are words, and actions are actions. Several problems, which the Ukrainian authorities clearly see, have not disappeared:<\/p>\n\n\n\n – Ukraine remains a belligerent country, which prevents the rules of joining the Bloc;<\/p>\n\n\n\n – the terms of future membership are not mentioned, populist statements remain statements that demonstrate intentions but do not include real steps, which Russia is well aware of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Therefore, it is better to consider such signals as the fact that the path to NATO is not cut off for Ukraine and not as a guarantee of membership in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Over the past two years, the approach to accepting new members into the Alliance has accelerated like never before. The way Finland and Sweden have done it gives hope. The war launched by Putin against Ukraine as a method of restraining the expansion of NATO has been a complete defeat because now the Alliance is expanding like never before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The main thing is that the officials do not consider the situation in Ukraine as a regional threat. It is actually a global one for the security of Europe, at least, and for the geopolitical situation as a whole. We will see whether this will bring positive results in July during the summit in Washington.
