The ultra-right and ultra-left in the European Parliament cynically praised Orb\u00e1n for his visit to Moscow. MEP Bardella did not condemn Orb\u00e1n’s visit to Moscow, refused to allocate funds to help the Ukrainian army, and expressed doubts about Ukraine’s accession to NATO. MEP Schirdewan criticized the inefficiency of the sanctions and the need to change strategy.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Recently, Viktor Orb\u00e1n visited Russia, where he met with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Some in the European Parliament supported these actions of the Hungarian prime minister, who is known for his friendliness towards Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the European Parliament, representatives of the ultra-right and ultra-left political groups supported the so-called “peace mission” of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n to Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cynical Praise for Orb\u00e1n’s Visit to Russia<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Today, in the 10th session of the European Parliament, discussions about the war in Ukraine took place for the first time. Following the debates, the European Parliament managed to approve a resolution on the need to provide long-term support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, MEPs condemned the visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n to Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, French MEP from Orb\u00e1n’s group “Patriots for Europe,” Jordan Bardella, who belongs to the party of pro-Russian political figure Le Pen, refused to condemn the Hungarian prime minister’s negotiations with the Russian dictator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, they repeated well-known Russian propaganda theses used by the ultra-right and ultra-left in Europe.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This resolution condemns visits to Russia. We cannot blame Hungary, a key partner in the transatlantic alliance, for negatively impacting the situation when they are trying to open discussions. Will you condemn this at the Peace Summit in November?” stated Bardella.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jordan Bardella also did not support the idea of allocating 0.25% of GDP annually to aid the Ukrainian army, and called the recognition of Ukraine’s future in NATO “problematic, as it would contribute to the escalation of the war.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

German MEP Martin Schirdewan from the “Left” group stated that Western components can still be found in Russian weapons. In his opinion, this indicates the inefficiency of the sanctions, and the only ones suffering from them are EU citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We should not protect the assets of oligarchs. This will not bring Putin to the negotiating table,” said the MEP. He also criticized the EU’s diplomatic approach and stated that providing more weapons to the Ukrainian army would not help end the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Martin Schirdewan says that the European Union needs to change its policy as the situation in Ukraine “has worsened and more people continue to die.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If we want to change the situation, we must change our strategy. It is time for change, so I am grateful that Mr. Orb\u00e1n is taking responsibility,” stated the MEP about Orb\u00e1n’s visit to Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier, it became known that the European Parliament approved a resolution in support of Ukraine. The resolution was supported by 495 MEPs out of 679 who voted. The resolution confirms support for the “independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the document, the European Parliament condemns the recent visit of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orb\u00e1n to Russia.
