Ursula von der Leyen has been re-elected as President of the European Commission for the next five years. After her re-election, she declared her support for Ukraine in its confrontation with Russia and advocated for the expansion of the European Union. Von der Leyen also proposes the creation of a joint EU air defense shield and a defense market to reduce dependency on foreign arms procurement.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 18, Ursula von der Leyen was re-elected as President of the European Commission. She will lead the Commission for another five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ursula von der Leyen addressed the parliament ahead of the vote, presenting her political agenda for the upcoming term, which included support for Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Statements by Ursula von der Leyen After Re-election<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The President of the European Commission emphasized that Europe will support Ukraine in its confrontation with Russia for as long as necessary. She also criticized Viktor Orb\u00e1n for his visit to Moscow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her statement, Ursula von der Leyen stressed the need for the expansion of the European Union.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In June, Ukraine began negotiations with the EU on membership. The President of the European Commission stated that over the next five years, the new European Commission will actively work on the accession of new countries to the European Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her speech, Ursula von der Leyen also noted that the European Commission will focus on strengthening its own security within the European Union. She proposed creating a joint air defense shield and an internal defense market to reduce dependency on foreign arms procurement. Due to Moscow’s use of migrants as a weapon on the Finnish border, the President proposed tripling the number of European border guards and coast guard representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
