Next week, on January 9, another meeting of the Contact Group on Defense of Ukraine in the “Ramstein” format will take place. The event, originally planned for October 12, 2024, was postponed due to the change in the schedule of US President Joe Biden.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why was the meeting postponed?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The US President canceled his planned visits to Germany and Angola due to the need to stay in the country to oversee preparations for Hurricane “Milton” and assist those affected by the previous natural disaster. As a result, the meeting, which was supposed to take place in October, was moved to January.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What will be discussed at the meeting?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The “Ramstein” format has become a key platform for coordinating military assistance to Ukraine from Western partners. This time, the following issues will be on the agenda:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Enhancement of military support to Ukraine<\/strong>
    Participants are expected to discuss further supply of military equipment, artillery shells, air defense systems, and other equipment necessary to counter Russian aggression.<\/li>\n\n \n\n
  2. Training of Ukrainian military personnel<\/strong>
    Discussions are planned regarding new training programs for Ukrainian military personnel in the NATO member countries’ bases. Special attention will be given to training with modern weapon systems.<\/li>\n\n \n\n
  3. Integration of new technologies<\/strong>
    The possibility of transferring advanced technologies to Ukraine, including unmanned systems, radio-electronic countermeasure systems, and modernizing existing weaponry, will be discussed.<\/li>\n\n \n\n
  4. Support for energy infrastructure<\/strong>
    Considering attacks on Ukraine’s energy system, new proposals for providing technical assistance in repairing damaged facilities are likely to emerge.<\/li>\n\n\n
  5. Financial support and logistics<\/strong>
    Meeting participants will discuss issues of funding for further arms supplies and creating logistical chains for the rapid delivery of equipment.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Preparation for “Ramstein”<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    On December 2, Ukrainian Minister of Defense Rustem Umeyrov discussed preparations for a meeting with Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin. The parties emphasized the need to expedite the supply of critically important resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    What do these meetings mean for Ukraine?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    The “Ramstein” format has become a symbol of Ukraine’s support by the international community. Since the start of the war, 24 meetings have already been held, with the latest one taking place in September 2024. Each meeting brings new agreements that enhance Ukraine’s defense capabilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
