Political scientists believe that if Donald Trump wins the 2024 US Presidential election, the US macro-political course may change dramatically. Former Presidential advisor, John Bolton, who worked with Trump in 2018-2019, shares this view.
“Irrational” person
Donald Trump is one of the likely candidates for the post of President, but he has a rather specific view of foreign policy. This issue is not a top priority for voters, because they pay more attention to the candidate’s program aimed at the internal and social sphere. For example, the opinion of Trump’s colleagues that Washington will withdraw from NATO is of more interest to foreigners than to Americans.
Politics under the influence of emotions
John Bolton claims that Trump’s policies do not follow a single line. He often makes decisions based on emotions rather than political categories. This happens even when it comes to such important issues as national security. Even during his term in office, Trump threatened the very existence of NATO, so after other powers of the country came to power, the political legacy for the Alliance was difficult. The situation had to be “patched” quickly.
Detailed portrait
Bolton also noted that the most difficult moments in Trump’s presidency are:
– unwillingness to listen to professionals in various fields, guided by emotions when making important decisions;
– inability to distance oneself from personal relations in diplomacy when it comes to important changes or agreement of decisions, especially in relation to opponents;
– excessive acceptance of flattery from other politicians, which can affect the situation.
All these features in a high-ranking official pose risks for the country, and the closest environment is unable to influence Trump.
Constructive or game?
At the same time, people criticize the Republicans who supported the President during his term, and emphasized certain successes, although they were not achieved thanks to Trump, but rather, in spite of his actions.
However, it must be remembered that in fact the big races before the elections have already started, so such “revelations” will be heard more and more often from the opponents.
