Russia will resume gas supplies to the unrecognized Transnistria in the format of “humanitarian-technical assistance”. This was announced by the “president” of the self-proclaimed republic Vadim Krasnoselsky after his visit to Moscow.
Gesture to the Kremlin
After the completion of the five-year contract between Ukraine and Russia on January 1, 2025, gas supply to Transnistria was discontinued, leading to the shutdown of industrial enterprises and rolling blackouts of electricity. This, in turn, caused issues with water supply and heating in the region.
Vadim Krasnoselsky assured that all systems are ready to resume gas supply and expressed hope for a quick stabilization of the energy situation.
Ukraine Ready to Help
It is worth noting that Ukraine is ready to help Moldova overcome the energy crisis in Transnistria. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated readiness to support Moldova in this matter.
At the same time, the relations between Vadim Krasnoselsky and Russian President Vladimir Putin remain close. Krasnoselsky has repeatedly expressed gratitude to Putin for supporting the peacekeeping mission in Transnistria and emphasized the importance of cooperation with Russia.
The situation in Transnistria remains challenging, and the resumption of gas supplies as humanitarian aid from Russia could have a significant impact on the energy stability of the region.
