A few days ago, international media spread reports that various types of weapons regularly supplied by the Pentagon to Kyiv suddenly “surfaced” in Mexico. According to some reports, we are talking about JAVELIN complexes, allegedly in the hands of representatives of the Mexican drug cartels. Is it true that Ukraine trades in military aid?
Quite likely – no. And the point here is not so much that the so-called “insiders” allegedly saw and captured the militants of the large Gulf Cartel group with the FGM-148 (JAVELIN-M) anti-tank missile system, but that these same “militants” took advantage of namely the services of Ukrainian intermediaries in the acquisition of this type of weapon. “It is quite obvious that such ATGMs simply did not reach Kiev”, – European political analyst Klaus Hoff told EURO-ATLANTIC UKRAINE in a comment. – Probably, they were “lost” in the territories adjacent to Ukraine.” At the same time, the interlocutor of our agency did not specify which territories are in question in this particular case.
Yes, this is not necessary. According to the infamous American journalist Seymour Hirsh, famous for his investigations of possible “political manipulations of the US White House”, the notorious arms shipments could have been stolen long before they got to Ukraine. “This could happen in Poland, Romania, Slovakia and other states”, – he noted in particular.
It should be especially emphasized that earlier Warsaw and Bucharest came out with a categorical denial of their involvement in such schemes. For example, the Polish authorities emphasized that “each JAVELIN unit that transited through Polish territory eventually reached the Ukrainian addressee. The President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis, spoke in the same tone, saying that his country “does not trade weapons right and left.”
So how did the FGM-148 complexes end up in the hands of Mexican organized crime groups? Now neither Washington nor Mexico City can give a clear answer to this question. Moreover, it is not worth looking for revelations in Kyiv.
According to some reports, several illegal structures specializing in weapons smuggling are currently operating in Eastern Europe. Allegedly, it was they who came up with a new scheme for sending American weapons to Iberoamerica, destined for “third countries”. The problem is that the US cannot control this process.
